Thomas's diary covers the period from May 15 to June 9, 1864. Brief entries mention the Spotsylvania campaign; the battle of North Anna River; the Cold Harbor campaign and the death of his colonel P.A. Porter; and sharp shooting at Gaines' Mill and a truce to bury the dead.
